Recall & Service Information

A vehicle recall is issued when a manufacturer or the department of National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) determines a vehicle (or a piece of equipment inside) creates a safety risk, or fails to meet minimum safety standards. Manufacturers are required to fix the problem by offering repairs, replacement or a refund to owners of the problem vehicle.

Takata Do Not Drive Advisory Information

Nissan is issuing an immediate DO NOT DRIVE warning for certain model year 2002-2006 Nissan Sentra and 2002-2004 Nissan Pathfinder vehicles in the United States and Canada affected by open Takata airbag recalls. This warning applies to approximately 84,000 Nissan and INFINITI vehicles. Nissan strongly advises drivers not to drive affected vehicles until the FREE repair has been completed.

Rear Visibility System Recall Information

On affected vehicles, the driver may potentially adjust the rear view camera and display settings to the degree that the image is no longer visible, and the system will retain those settings when the vehicle is next shifted to reverse. A temporarily reduced rear visibility when the driver has adjusted the display to this extent could lead to an increased risk of an accident in the event the driver does not re-adjust the display before reversing.

Takata Airbag Safety Recall Information

Certain Nissan vehicles may have a defective airbag which needs to be repaired immediately. In the event of a crash, the airbag could explode shooting metal pieces at the driver and passengers, causing serious injury or death. If your vehicle is affected by this recall, we encourage you to take immediate action to have your vehicles repaired for free at an authorized Nissan dealership.

Anti-Lock Brake (ABS) Actuator Safety Recall Information

In some vehicles affected by this recall, the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) actuator may leak brake fluid. If this occurs, the ABS warning lamp will illuminate and remain continuously illuminated on the instrument panel. However, the leak can potentially create an electrical short, and in rare instances, may lead to a fire.

This condition does not meet the requirements of FMVSS No. 111.

Risk

A temporarily reduced rear visibility when the driver has adjusted the display to this extent could lead to an increased risk of an accident in the event the driver does not re-adjust the display before reversing.

What You Should Do

If the rear view image is not clearly visible when you shift into reverse, before driving your vehicle, please adjust the display and camera settings to a level where the rear view image is clear.

Next Steps

Nissan is developing a remedy plan to update the rear visibility system software for all affected vehicles. Once the remedy is available, you will receive a notification to bring your vehicle to the nearest Nissan dealer for the free repair.

Takata Do Not Drive Advisory Information

Takata Do Not Drive Advisory Information

The following Nissan vehicles are subject to the Do Not Drive Advisory:

MODEL MODEL YEAR
Sentra
2002-2006
Pathfinder
2002-2004

Reason for Recall

Nissan is issuing an immediate DO NOT DRIVE warning for certain model year 2002-2006 Nissan Sentra and 2002-2004 Nissan Pathfinder vehicles in the United States and Canada affected by open Takata airbag recalls. This warning applies to approximately 84,000 vehicles. Nissan strongly advises drivers not to drive affected vehicles until the FREE repair has been completed.

Due to the age of the vehicles equipped with defective Takata airbag inflators, there is an increased risk the inflator could explode during an airbag deployment, propelling sharp metal fragments which can cause serious injury or death. Drivers are urged to stop driving the vehicle immediately and contact their local authorized Nissan dealer to schedule the necessary free repair. Dealers are prepared to provide free towing; options including mobile repair or a loaner car are also available in select locations. To check if your vehicle is part of this important safety recall, please visit the Nissan official recall webpage at https://www.nissanusa.com/takata-airbag-recall and enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

Nissan's do not drive warning is the most recent effort in an extensive, multi-year campaign to communicate the risk of driving vehicles with defective Takata inflators and urge drivers to complete the free recall repair. For additional questions or concerns, Nissan customers can reach Customer Affairs at 800-NISSAN-1.
