I heard about this sequel from a blog called Onikirimaru (https://www.onikirimaru.com) that analysed it completely from a literary point of view.
It's really well-written and I think it's definitely superior to the prequel, which was mostly just a set of episodes about adventures, but nothing deep.
Virgin Soul is about a forbidden romance between a pacifist girl called Nina who changes into a killer red dragon when she sees handsome boys and a warrior king who has had to take extreme measures so that humanity can progress after the chaos Bahamut caused in Genesis.
King Charioce XVII is one very intriguing character, and he comes to realise his mistakes as events turn against him, and his secret plan is undermined. It's a tragic love story with tons of plot twists. I loved it!
If you like stories about dragons, curses and star-crossed lovers set in a fantasy world with beautiful landscapes and fun characters, give Virgin Soul a try!

A surprising shift in genres!
Season two focuses more on a light romance, rather than action!? This might be a turn-off for some, but in doing so, it actually ADDS positively to the overall plot!
In terms of story, it BLOWS season one out of the water! The main character, while rambunctious and overly energetic, is essential to the story as a whole.
Character development is a word that can ACTUALLY be used in season two, which is pretty to crazy say, considering it was almost non-existent in season one!
This season focuses more on back-stories and motivations, and in doing so changing your perspective on certain "Individuals".

Almost a masterpiece, didn't expect that. Quality was all S1 had. Heck, I almost forgot everything in S1. But S2 truly hits all the marks. Basically, it's a bunch of neutral factions with clear reason and ambition. Almost everything is rational, no stupidity. And the ending just amplifies all of those points.
You're going to be amused by some of the characters, and captivated by ONE person -- someone which is way more than his/her outside appearance.
This season is a bunch of equally great aspects. But unlike its prequel and a lot of high quality series, it's actually brave enough to delve way deeper than just a very standard "pretty story".

Which way does the wind blow? Towards tomorrow!

The visual fidelty I so praised in the previous season is somewhat diminished in this one. In return we get a better story, a bigger cast and a look into the politics of the world. The tradeoff is more than worth it and overall it's an improvement over its predecessor.

This one had an elegant weaving with the story.
At first I was expecting this simply to be "use the same universe and make more money off of it". However, towards the end, all the pieces come together nicely. Everything is explained.
This was similar to season 1, but it definitely tells its own story.

It start as slow romantic fantasy and become really good epic fantasy like S1 at the last one third of the series. Almost all characters are likable. Art and animation is excellent. I really enjoyed its ending. 8/10

S1 was one of the best animes of 2014; however S2 changes up the formula by using a new character in a mellow dramatic romance. S2 is meant for fans as it can feel too long at times.

The animation is on another level. Awesome fights. However S2 focuses on the new characters rather than the iconic duo from S1, not a fan of this. The ending of the last episode, intense cliffhanger. Recommended :D
