sammy321 couldn't had said it better...Personally I was expecting more of the same formula of Barakamon, but it really surprised how different it is, it focuses a lot more on comedy. A bit of letdown for me, still did enjoyed it and had some good laughs along the way.
An entertaining watch overall, especially if you are looking for random and wacky comedy.

I jumped to this on a whim and glad I did.
I recommend watching the beginning of episode one after you finish watching the whole season; it's a bit much unless you know more about the characters first. I found it super annoying for an introduction and almost pushed me away entirely.
If you skip forward to the part where the anime actually starts (about 10 mins in), it's a fun time with great moments of misunderstanding. It's silly, but subdued enough to be quite enjoyable.

Its rating of 5 shows you very clearly what kind of story/quality you can expect.
But the primary objective of this show was comedy and it made me laugh out involuntary so many times that I can't think of it as any less than a 8/10 anime.
Please try 2 episodes to see if its to your taste.

Decent comedy, funny and great at beginning, a little worse as it progress (repeatable). I started to feel sorry for main hero and that's exactly when I stopped enjoying it as comedy.
Handa is admired by everyone, so none really wants to get close to him, this anime shows "the power of suggestion", as main hero misinterpret everything what's happening around him and closes himself for everyone. Still made me laugh a few times and had happy ending.

While Handa-kun is a prequel to Barakamon (which is more serious with good character development with good timing comedy sprinkled in), Handa-kun is more episodic with over-the-top comedy. If you're looking for some crazy comedy, this will have you laughing for sure.

It's funny but except three things not even close to (sequel) Barakamon. The three things being two characters designs and calligraphy. The many characters in Handa-kun are unique and the ED is catchy. Well, off to watch Barakamon again, Handa-kun is good appetizer.
