Very emotional story that adds a lot of color to Chise's background, would highly recommend watching this after the first season if you watch it before the main story arc you will miss out on most of the emotional impact

Even though this was made before the TV series and ANN lists it as a prequel, it's not really, sure it's a story Chise tells of her early childhood, but if you didn't watch the TV series first, you will be lost.
The whole thing is bitter-sweet, mostly bitter and really adds nothing to the main story, just a little more backstory to Chise.
Feeling bitter is not something i like doing, so i'm not sure this was worth watching, which is why i'm only recommending this to hardcore fans. (7/10)

Its about a young girl (~6yrs) whose mother kills herself, is taken in by relatives, but because she can see youkai she acts weirdly, so the people in the house do not like her. But she finds relief with like minded people.
The story is similar to Natsume but not as endearing or heart warming. It feels a little artificial. Still I do recommend it. Its nice.

Excellent OVA adapted from sidestory of the manga. It's a good entry that spans a bit of time prior to the main series (as backstory) and quite a bit of the early part of the manga. It is as good as a Ghibli film in animation, and the viewer of the series (which came out after this) will be introduced to the characters and their backstory. It's a standalone, and does not depend on the main series to be enjoyed, but does add depth to the main series.
