Trouble arises in Staccato one day. Demons show up and start to wreak havoc on the townspeople. The entire country seems to be suffering. The source of the problem is that the "barrier" which until now has kept the demons from crossing over to the human world, is weakening. The person who sustains it is losing her strength after holding it up for so many years. That person is Queen Horn of Sforzando. Hell King Bass is trying to break through the barrier and release their "supreme leader," Kestra (Orchestra). One whose power is unparalleled yet is trapped somewhere in the world of the humans.

Hella painful to watch. Despite having experienced how good it is, I am reluctant to commit to watching it again. Low-budget slideshow animation. Yet, arguably one of the finest anime ever made. Beautiful music and imagery which speaks directly to the subconscious. It has a cult following for a reason.

This is deeply personal, highly original work. Do NOT skip ahead. The series climax is inspired, the most subtly devastating, eeriest of things. Upon seeing it, you know that the imagery is speaking directly from the soul of the creator. Imagery I have never seen anyone else use for such a purpose.

Like reading Moby Dick or The Magic Mountain, this is anything but a passive free ride. The majority will pass up this journey without a second thought. Rightly so.

A decent anime, the title should have been The Violinist Hameluun, as Hameluun is his name, and he plays the Violin...

A lower-budget production, what seems the lack of financing ends up hurting this anime in many places.

I enjoyed it for the most part, but ended up dissapointed because the anime came so close enveloping me in its world and just couldn't...

~Animation: Think still frames~
The animation consisted of LOTS of still frames mingled in with its animation.

Still, it got the point across, which is the purpose of animation, and the drawings are very pretty most of the time. You won't be watching this one for its high speed rendered CG, though...

~Sound: Dissapointing, doesn't live up to its name~
I liked the various classical music pieces, the jpop songs, and so forth, but as with everything, it just fell short of what it seemed that it could be.

The voices were exceptional, though. Very powerful at times.

~Story: More dissapointment, doesn't live up to its potential~
Hmm... VH has an interesting storyline, for sure. It flows well, and is an actual story for 25 episodes, unlike many anime tales which seem to be single-episode stories strewn together.

It just fell shy of its potential. I was so close to really liking it, but the dialogue became too drab. Or the action became bland (as in what is happening, the still frames nullify any possibility of real action sequences), or the emotions of the characters seemed out of place... bleah, I don't know, but at the very end I was just disappointed with the fact that it had so much potential and yet left me so emotionally empty.

~Character: Interesting, good characters~
Dark, mysterious? Cute Flute. All of them have instrument names... *sigh*

Interesting characters and interactions, do I need to say it again though? In the end, it just sort of fell shy of being amazing.

~Value: So close~
I suppose it's worth watching. I certainly enjoyed it, but had a constant feeling that the production budget was severely handicapped.
