Synopsis for "The Mission"
With his newly formed Midnight Mission operation, Marc Spector as Mr. Knight took a request for aid and saved a troupe of people co-opted into a pyramid scheme by a vampire cult. Killing their captors, Moon Knight takes in one of the involuntary vampires named Reese, to help assist his Midnight Mission. When asked why by Dr. Andrea Sterman in session, Mr. Knight explained how they were coerced into vampirism, and thus were victims under his protection foremost. Getting into his identity, a whirlwind of contradictions, Mr. Knight confirms her understandings of Khonshu reviving him to be his champion and other times he's died, leading her to ponder if he can stay dead. When asked to clear an old woman's building of Vermin, the Spider-Man foe, Moon Knight killed many while scaring away the rest. When back on the topic of Khonshu, Mr. Knight acknowledges Khonshu versus the Avengers and how he deserved imprisonment by the Aesir,[1] but Mr. Knight was still committed to protecting people.
One night, Moon Knight runs into Dr. Badr of the Cult of Khonshu, who has no compunction to mete out justice himself as he beats down 8-Ball trying to rob his clinic of Oxycontin, and voices his disapproval of Marc's fulfillment in his role. Elsewhere, Dr. Sterman tells the story of Caedmon to Mr. Knight, of how one can be elevated after interacting with a higher being. She questions if Khonshu have altered Marc Spector’s brain to be something extraordinary, as medical science has found it to be fundamentally changed from baseline human readings. And like how Caedmon went from dullard to poet, Sterman is concerned for Marc's mind given how in touch he was with Khonshu for so many years. He recalls a similar talk with Elisa Warsame, but Mr. Knight assures her that there'll be no trust issues between them as, while his paranoia was keenly honed, he didn't want to live as such.
One time, after sweeping the front porch all night, Reese gives her ordered coffee to Mr. Knight as she wasn't able to drink coffee anymore. Sitting down to drink the coffee, Mr. Knight tells Reese he likes her as she doesn't try to fix him. As he continues, Mr. Knight and Reese are watched from across the street by a mysterious figure, intent on Moon Knight's downfall having done extensive research on him, and promising to make his wrath upon Moon Knight precise and personal. This shadow-hidden figure smiles in anticipation to reduce all Moon Knight believes in turned to dust, to expose what he is really made of. Meanwhile, Dr. Badr prays to Khonshu on his return home, calling out his intent on punishing Moon Knight for straying from his path. Badr swears his piety to serving Khonshu, with the goal of correcting Moon Knight, Khonshu's Right Hand. Badr puts on a mask as the other fist of Khonshu. The Hunter's Moon, Khonshu's Left Hand.
