For a second attempt I have tried a geometric computation approach using RegionIntersection
and the GeoBoundingBox
of the entities.

This also takes some time to execute because of the complexity of the polygons that make up the geo-borders. I'm also not too keen on this approach as there are conditions where an entity's bounding box will intersect but it will not be on the boarder due to the shape of either entities.

I have attempted this (very inefficiently) by trying to match the points of the polygon of the region to those of the subdivision regions with little success.

The replacements are needed as the region functions to not play nice with geographic polygons yet (as at version 10.2). In any case this does not work well.

However, in hindsight, it was a stretch to think that points would be shared along bordering geo-entities. They should have lines that touch, though.
I am considering RegionUnion
with the entity polygons but am still thinking how I would check that the union has formed a connected region. I might consider a Piecewise
parametric equation of the polynomials and if there is a real solution to there intersection. Seems a bit of overkill, though.

I would like to get the counties (e.g. second level administrative divisions) that border the Gulf of Mexico. OceanData
has the "BorderingCountries"
properties that gives the country list.

I'm not certain how to use OceanData
and CountryData
(or AdministrativeDivisionData
) to get to the administrative divisions that border the ocean.
I'd appreciate a nudge in the correct direction. Ideally, I'm looking for (or to create) a method that will work in general for any ocean and counties (i.e. administration division 2) of any country. Also, any higher administrative division to lower neighbouring administrative divisions (e.g. all the Pennsylvania counties bordering New York state).
Ideas?
