The USS Stargazer (NCC-2893-A) was a 24th century Federation starship, an Intrepid-class cruiser in Starfleet service in the late 2370s decade. Its commanding officer was Captain Rackham. (TNG - Unlimited - Telepathy War comic: "Heart of Darkness")
Service history and disposition[]
The Stargazer-A took its name from the Constellation-class heavy cruiser[1] USS Stargazer (NCC-2893) that gained notoriety under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the 2330s. (TNG episode: "The Battle")
In the year 2373, the Stargazer-A was assigned to a joint Starfleet-Klingon Defense Force task force in response to an attack on the Bajoran space station Deep Space 9. Alongside its Intrepid-class sister ship USS Pathfinder and the fleet's Sovereign-class flagship USS Enterprise-E, led by Captain Picard, the Federation Alliance sent the task force into the Gamma Quadrant to stop further Dominion attacks.
On the other side of the galaxy, the task force was attacked by Jem'Hadar ships. Starfleet and the Klingons fought back but the Pathfinder was tragically lost in the battle. The Stargazer returned, alongside the rest of the task force, to the Alpha Quadrant. (TNG - Unlimited - Telepathy War comic: "Heart of Darkness")
By stardate 58839.03, in 2381, the ship was honored by having the Stargazer-class prototype USS Stargazer-A inherit its name and registry number. (STO websites: Ships of the Line, The Path to 2409)
Alternate timelines[]
In an alternate timeline of the First Splinter[2] timeline, the USS Stargazer was in Starfleet service in the 2380s. In 2380s, this Stargazer was under the command of Captain Picard himself. Q learned the vessel to a quantum fissure at Gorsach IX to use versions of Picard to convince Them not to destroy the multiverse. (TNG novel: Q & A)
