Both protagonists are deemed the weakest (in magic) and berated by his peers in their school, but only because the evaluations of them are selective, which neglects their other superior strong points (their physical abilities) that may even surpass other so called "geniuses." They live together with the heroine, who is considered the complete opposite of the protagonist, the strongest and most talented, and thus revered for their skills.

Anos and Tatsuya from Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei are serious characters and have overwhelming magical power. The animation seems somewhat alike and both characters are surrounded by girls.

- The main character in both these series is cold, serious and also skilled in fighting. - Both MCs have a harem, although MKNR is based more around action than romance. - Yuuji and Tatsuya both have a sister, which is better-viewed in their family than they are. - Both anime have a similar feel to it and they have great artwork.

The two most important aspect about classroom of the elites are 1.) the character and 2.) the setting/environment. Things like plot are just a by-product of these two interacting and not what you should be looking for if searching for an anime similar to this show. The characters’ background of being smart and witty as well as mysterious/unknown to others is a very simple yet basic comparison between the two. Chances are, you like this troupe of the underdog protagonist surprising pretentious enemies. The importance of the setting here is what filters out every other show that has an overpowered protagonist as the premise. The  read more

Mahouka Kouka no Rettousei features a fusion of magic and science where magic has been made into a science. In Toaru Majutsu no Index, it features a similar fusion of magic and science, although admittedly its more of a science vs magic thing. Personally, I find both fun and entertaining to watch because of that combination ^^

The series revolves around siblings whose presence and influence are well known to those around them. Through unorthodox means, they challenge the accepted systems of the world and society. As a team, they are an unstoppable force to be reckoned with.

Both animated works are set in futuristic worlds deeply shaken by class struggle, both contain a healthy dose of political intrigue, explore the human nature, and boast large casts of characters.

Both have light novel source materials and focus on a cool MC hiding his untold back story and past experience from the rest of the militaristic high school and slowly showing it off as he gets into more fights surrounding a mixture of hand to hand combat, specialized weapons, and magic / kai. Also both have an interesting support cast to make up for the withdrawn personality of the MC.

Similarities: Both have the same setting where it is set in a magical school. Both involves the same brother and sister tandem attending the same school and are in the same year level. Both have the same action, magic, adventure and supernatural genre. Both have the same character where the brother is a top performing student. Dissimilarities: One involves a true brother and sister tandem, while in the other anime the siblings are unrelated. The main guy in one anime was cocky, arrogant and a pervert, while the main guy in the other anime is noble, respectful and a gentleman. Mahouka and Sword Art both have an extremely competent and multitalented protagonist, who is usually quite level-headed. The protagonists each have a younger sister who is a serious brocon. Both series are more about hiding ones full potential and deciding where to go all out, rather than falling into a desperate situation.

Both of these anime feel similar due to their strong male lead character. Both are the intellectual type who go on to have a big impact in their respective worlds, so if you liked either for their MC, then you should definitely give the other a go

Badass main character who's can be a prideful prick? Check. Modern and Good Art? Check. Action-packed fighting by main character who is a legend, but also "flawed"? Check. Both MKnRand QZGS are fantasy/magic type animes that don't try to reinvent the wheel, but still remains refreshing and intriguing. While they are sort of directed to different audiences, both elicit either a love/hate response. The side characters are surprisingly memorable and different too. QZGS's beauty is the character development and unique stories while MKnR is all about "imperfection" not being an excuse for being OP, hence the huge class divider. Bonus: Both have great OP/EDs too! Both main characters grow up having a tough child hood, which later in life makes them have a laid back/ calm attitude to stay out of trouble not to mention that both main characters are very intelligent. Both come off as being weak but are Very skilled in the art of fighting style/power. Also the story's include female characters that help out main protagonist in the story. Overall fighting a much bigger evil as the story progresses. Both deal with Magic/supernatural

These two anime both feature a futuristic world which is filled with magic and magic-related elements. Strike the Blood goes a bit further by also adding in some supernatural elements. They both contain action and romance, but Strike the Blood also adds in some ecchi and comedy. Both anime also feature annoying, yet skillful female main characters. You have Miyuki from Mahouka who calls her brother Tatsuya by "Onii-sama" about a hundred times per episode and Yukina from Strike the Blood who insists on interrupting Kojou's catchphrase "This is my fight" with her infamous "No Senpai, this is OUR fight."

Sigh... Even though one is magic based and the other is mech based, both have quiet/blunt, genius level main characters who can pretty much make no mistakes. Why they have so much knowledge or why they are so proficient compared to everyone else doesn't matter. *flips table*

The main protagonists - Tatsuya and Sagara are both "abnormal" teenagers who are trying to fit in with normal highschool life ... while protecting a girl in the same grade.

Lelouch is one of the better analogues you'll find to Tatsuya and though he isn't nearly as GODMODE he benefits from being in a vastly superior story and better animated show than poor Tatsuya. While there isn't an imouto character in Geass of anywhere near the same quality as Miyuki there is plenty of potential romances and one sided love affairs to go around in Geass' great cast. Potential turn off = mecha. Otherwise enjoy a great show.

Both anime feature an overpowered main character who tries to live a normal life in high school. Both main characters' attitudes and personalities are similar as they are straightforward and do not flinch at talking with girls. They also share a similar backstory related to the military and being a soldier. Both main characters are considered to be "worse" in the eyes of other standings due to their standing/background/lineage, despite their overwhelming strength. Both anime have a more "science"-y background explanation for the magic used.

Magic academy, harem themes, electronic pop playing in the background, OP main character. Every girl falls in love and tries to get attention of the MC. Nice school uniforms and magical symbols too. A lot of dialogues and slow pacing culminating in powerful battles, especially in Taimadou Gakuen.

In both anime, the MC is way overpowered. Obviously, Mahouka has a completely different style of magic, since it is staged in the 22nd century, while Smartphone was staged in a parallel world in the medieval era. however both are in many ways similar. Mainly in the MC's character.

Cid and Tatsuya are overpowered protagonists that hide their secret identities and talent while attending school. Outwardly acting like an average, low-achieving student as a cover for their other identities. In reality, Cid is a true edgelord, and this series lets the audience in on the joke to make the most of it. Tatsuya, on the other hand, is a stoic and analytical soldier able to use magic for mass killing and large-scale destruction. Consider this recommendation for more overpowered characters with magic powers.

Both shows have a similar brother and sister complex going on. Only thing except is that the main char in Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei is a brother and in X, he is a friend of a brother. Regardless both main chars have serious personality and are willing to protect their loved ones. Not to mention they are pretty powerful too and are students. Only difference in both shows is that Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei is light hearted amd friendly with magical powers while X is dark and depressing with supernatural powers. Also both take place in Japan.

Tatsuya and Fuse are ruthless soldiers that have a wolf in sheep's clothing aspect and if you enjoy one of those characters, you will like the other. Both stories are set in a sci fi dystopian world where politics and discrimination are huge. Animation and Artwork are nicely well done due to the budget. The same thing applies to the soundtrack as it plays throughout the series.

CG and MKNR deal with issues of discrimination, politics, and military that addresses and affects of what status quo can be and that change is in the need of demand. I find Mahouka Kouka No Rettosei as if what if Tatsuya were to change the world within whereas Lelouch changes it from the outside. Both are badasses who show raw power but in different aspects that revolve around their sisters. Their rivals are no doubt uncanny in terms of looks and personality.

The MCs are smart and good looking but at the same time loses cool when it comes to certain aspects. Their intelligence is what keeps them victorious at all costs but at the same time the challenges they face gets tougher with stronger enemies.

Both shows star an OP MC who meets challenges in everyday life giving it an easy but not so simple victory. They also share a bond with a female lead as the series progresses. What those shows have in common is that both are produced by none other than Madhouse whose caliber skills rocks when it comes to animation, art, and visuals. However both shows receive criticism for their lack of development, plot, cliche elements, and annoying moments.

To me both of these gave a similar vie which is something I often look for when looking at similar anime, it's all about the vibe the series has. Also both are set in a supernatural school setting and it's no secret that such powers exist, the power system is different with A Certain Scientific Railgun focusing on psychic "esper" powers and Irregular At Magic High Shcool focusing more on magic, overall both series still have a similar feeling to them. The main characters are pretty similar. Both of them are at a disadvantage, so it's interesting to see how they deal with this in different situations. Not to mention, the both of them are very talented at strategizing and planning their attacks. With this, both of them have jealous rivals. Although, Boku no Hero Academia is definitely better than this series. There is way more character development and tension that just makes you want to keep watching.

Firstly, the main characters in both Mahouka and Hamatora, Nice and Tatsuya, look really similar to each other. The plots are also surprisingly similar in which they focus on the discrimination b/w people with powers and people who don't. In Hamatora, there is major discrimination b/w "Minimum Holders" (People with magic) and normal people. In Mahouka, it's more science and fantasy-like but there is still discrimination between "Weeds" and "Blooms" (Guess which group has magic)

Going to an elite school separating magic/tech use by skill level turns out to not be valid, because it's the dropouts/barely passing the mark boys who accidentally are the most OP. Without trying they seem to get a harem/loyal support group of equally elite girls. Both are battle of the fittest type anime. Two series with great art styles, but toe the line of overusing certain archetypes/phrases.

This recommendation is based on how both series portray school and student life in an anime. Their school segregates their student population in a hierarchy of haves and have nots. Power comes from winning at gambling in Kakegurui whereas power comes from magical abilities in The Irregular at Magic High School. The main character disrupts this dynamic. Recommended for people who are looking for non-traditional school anime.

This recommendation is not based on similar narrative, characters or even themes, but on their settings. Little Witch Academia and The Irregular at Magic High School are series set in worlds where magic exists and students learn it at school, but introduces this subject from different perspectives. The Irregular at Magic High School creates a world based on an alternative history where magic is enhanced by modern technology. Little Witch Academia creates a world where magic has become diminished and a relic. The magic schools are completely different from each other, but are believable for their respective worlds

Both animes (and other adaptions) have a serious tone with an accompanying group of close friends or interweaving relationships. The main character is OP and has a special *only me* talent. They also both have a younger sister. Both are looked down on a lot because their abilities don't match up with the mainstream beliefs of strength. Before their power is revealed they are practically considered the weakest. The main character is brought out during a climax to solve a catastrophe-level problem and both practically solve it alone. Both protagonists are living in a sci-fi futuristic world setting, one that has learned to use magic, another always in danger of being attacked by gastrea. however both protagonists seem to be underestimated in Tatsuya's case would be that he is a 'weed' and in Rentaros case, he and his partner are lowly ranked at the start. Both of them begin to show their true powers in the middle of the storyline and slowly gain recognition and acknowlegements regarding their strengths. If you like OP protagonists, this is the anime for you.

Mahouka is on a different level than Qualidea. That being said, I really liked the colorful art in both as well as the electronic dubby kind of soundtrack to them. The music sort of enhanced the somehow futuristic concept of having powers/magic/whatever you wanna call it that the anime were trying to give off. I like Qualidea more than a lot of other viewers it seems, but if you liked even parts of Qualidea and want an anime with a more complex plot and characters and action etc, then i surely recommend Mahouka Koukou.

Reikenzan is similar to Irregular at Magic High in the ways that the MC is super OP and things usually end up working in the MC's favor. Both main characters are highly intelligent and their peers look up to them. Theres also a strong focus on improving spiritual power, which is somewhat similar to the training in Irregular at Magic High

Both have dark haired cool (or cold, choose) main hero with hidden identity and "secret job", who is overpowered. There are also some imouto issues, lot of stereotypical side characters and running away from past. The similarity in setting: It's postapokalyptic, there are two types of people (contractors and magicians vs. "normal") and there is significant military involvement.
