- In a nutshell: an extremely realistic RPG set in medieval Central Europe
What's Kingdom Come: Deliverance about?
Kingdom Come: Deliverance is very much focused on a realistic depiction of its setting. Created by a Czech studio, it takes us to Central Europe of the 15th century. The action begins several years before the Hussite Wars, which are the main background of the story.
We play the son of a blacksmith from a small village. One day, his settlement is razed to the ground, and he himself decides to take revenge on the raiders – this is how the story begins, taking us into the middle of events that actually took place in Europe at the time.
In terms of mechanics, it's an action RPG, but the combat mechanics are far from simple sword-mashing. The creators have prepared an extremely complex system based on authentic rules of medieval fencing.
Why is it worth playing?
Games set in medieval times got us used to all sorts of fantasy themes, and when first noticing Kingdom Come: Deliverance, everyone probably expects wizards, dragons and elves – yet, there's none of that here. The creators focused 100% on realism, without introducing any fantastic themes; instead, they focused on full compliance with historical facts.
This emphasis on the most accurate representation of everyday medieval life is what distinguishes Kingdom Come: Deliverance from other RPGs. What's more, the game copes with this (quite difficult) task extremely well and is often praised for nearly perfect depiction of the realities of the age. Thanks to this, it's not just a good, demanding RPG, but also a unique opportunity to travel back in time. This realism alone makes the game worth your while, if only to see how we will cope with the role of an aspiring knight, without spells or magical creatures by our side, only with other human companions.
