This chapter of the Metro Exodus Sam's Story guide describes the next part of the game, where you can improve relations with the Captain.

You are at the Captain's place - sit in a chair and talk to him. At some point, the light will go out - he will talk about food. Give him food to improve relations with the Captain - this will get you closer to the good ending.

Drink with the captain and listen to his story. Then follow the man to the generator and watch the funny cut-scenes. Go up the stairs, defeat mutants, and collect Molotov cocktails in the rooms. Your task is to find X on the ground and set a trap in that place. The task is not particularly difficult - explore the rooms, look where you are going and use Molotov cocktails (you can also craft them at the workbench). You need to set 5 traps if you want to see the good ending.

When it's over, use the hook and get out of the apartment. Move forward - you will encounter bandits. Defeat them, and then head to the next marker on the map.
