A few days ago, Larian Studios celebrated the great victory of Baldur's Gate 3 during this year's BAFTA gala. The game of the Belgians became the first game in history to receive the GOTY title at all major industry events.

The devs expressed their gratitude to all fans for their ongoing support and highly positive reception of the third Baldur's Gate in a special message on Steam.

You folks were the first to have faith in us, and for that, we are eternally grateful. Every comment, livestream, meme, and piece of art you created throughout Baldur's Gate 3's development let us know we were on to something special long before any of this -- reads part of the announcement.

Patch 7

Words of gratitude aren't all that Larian Studios had to convey to the community. It turns out that the developers are working on the seventh major update to Baldur's Gate 3.

According to the information provided by the developers, this update will add "improved evil endings to the game for even darker conclusions to your most sinister playthroughs." Furthermore, the new cutscenes will feature a soundtrack crafted by Larian's in-house composer, Borislava Slavova.

The official modding tools in Patch 7, which will enable you to "alter graphics, animations, sounds, statistics, and much more," should be the main focus for players.

Developers assure that they don't intend to stop introducing further improvements to BG3. Although the most important issue is still improving performance and eliminating bugs, Larian Studios is also working on crossplay and photo mode. However, the developers emphasize that both of these elements require a lot of work, therefore they are "further away in time."

The devs have also stated that, in order to ensure the highest quality of the updates being released, the Belgians have also announced that each subsequent update will undergo additional internal testing. Larian also plans to organize closed beta tests of Patch 7 for the PC version. More detailed information on this topic is expected to emerge in the near future.

Future plans

Larian Studios also made room in its announcement to address the future of the company and its upcoming games. The Belgians once again confirmed that they are abandoning the Dungeon & Dragons universe and shifting their energies to new projects.

As an independent studio since 1996, we value the freedom to follow our creativity wherever it leads. In this case, after six years in the Forgotten Realms and much discussion and rumination, we've decided to seize this opportunity to develop our own IPs We're currently working on two new projects and we couldn't be more excited about what the future has in store -- we read on.

Developers are aware that not all fans may like the new direction. To help ease any potential concerns of the community, the developers included a few words from the studio CEO, Swen Vincke.

II don't know if we're going to pull it off, but looking at our narrative, visual and gameplay plans, I think what we're working on now will be our best work ever. I get excited like a kid watching the key imagery, want to show it to everyone now and grumble in frustration at having to wait until it's actually all working. Yes, it's hype but it's hype because it really looks and feels good.
