This RDR2 Mod Improves Performance on AMD Cards
Rockstar Games is not going to add support for FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 technology to RDR2 for the time being, so fans rolled up their sleeves and did it themselves.
Red Dead Redemption 2 does not offer official support for mods, and yet the game boasts quite a large modding community, which every now and then delivers projects most worthy of interest. The latest example of this is the modification called RDRFSR2.
The project introduces into the game support for the FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 technology, AMD's answer to Nvidia's DLSS. Some developers have already added official support for this feature to their game, but Rockstar Games is not among them, so a fan by the handle RealIndica has rolled up his sleeves and created an unofficial alternative.
What does DLSS give you?
DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) stands for a method of using artificial intelligence to increase the frame rate while maintaining visual quality. The solution works great in action and is getting more and more popular, but its drawback is that it only works on Nvidia GPUs. FidelityFX Super Resolution 2, therefore, enables us to enjoy this type of technology on AMD chips (although the company, unlike the competition, does not require its hardware to be used and the solution also works on GeForce cards).
Tech Power Up decided to check how RDRFSR2 performs in action. According to the website's analysis, the mod works very well, although it is an unofficial project. Performance is not much worse than DLSS. There are some minor visual shortcomings, but they are small enough to be easily ignored. So this is definitely a noteworthy modification for those with AMD cards. On the other hand, those with GeForce chips should stay with DLSS.
It is worth adding at the end that this is not the only project of this type. A few days ago, an analogous modification DL2FSR2 was released for Dying Light 2. Both it and RDRFSR2 are, incidentally, based on the older mod, called CyberFSR2, for Cyberpunk 2077.
