Foundation[]

Multiversal War[]

"Stepping off your path created a nexus event, which, left unchecked, could branch off into madness, leading to another multiversal war. But, don't worry, to make sure that doesn't happen, the Time-Keepers created the TVA, and all its incredible workers!"
―Miss Minutes[src]
Reorganizing the Multiverse

The Time-Keepers restructure the Multiverse

Eons ago, Victor Timely discovered the existence of alternate universes during the 31st century on Earth. At the same time, other Variants of himself were learning the same thing, leading them to meet each other. For a brief moment, the Multiverse was in peace until another Variant of Victor Timely, known as Kang the Conqueror, believed that their collective temporal meddling would result in the end of the Multiverse as it would eventually lead to Incursions and the collapse of all universes and timelines. He ultimately came to a conclusion that the only way to bring the order to the Multiverse and prevent its demise was to conquer some realities while destroying certain others.[2] This caused the Multiversal War, where countless Variants of Timely fought each other to protect their respective universes while trying to annihilate the others. One Victor Timely then discovered Alioth and harnessed its power to put an end towards the Multiversal War. He later isolated his native timeline, dubbed the Sacred Timeline, and created the Time Variance Authority, an organization that arrested Variants and pruned alternate timelines before they could branch significantly out of the Sacred Timeline.[3] He recruited Variants to work for him,[4] with Ravonna Renslayer as his general and trusted second-in-command. Upon reaching an era of peace, He Who Remains ordered Miss Minutes to wipe every TVA personnel's memories of him before making them believe that they were created by the Time-Keepers to protect the Sacred Timeline.[5]

The TVA's main military force was the Minutemen, who became the organization's first line of defense, sent to new timelines to assess the situations, apprehend the culprits and stop the new timeline's development, as well as being the main security force inside the Time Variance Authority Office.[6]

Loki Variants[]

Arresting Loki Laufeydottir[]

On one mission, a team of Minutemen led by Renslayer arrived via Timedoor to Asgard in an alternate timeline. There she and the other Minutemen arrested a Variant of Loki, who was a young child at the time, and kidnapped her, taking her to the TVA.

Renslayer then accompanied the Variant to the courtroom for her trial. However, the Variant bit her arm, stole her TemPad, and ran away from her into a Timedoor.[7]

Encountering a Variant[]

Loki tries to convice Mobius

A Variant of Loki was blasted through a Timedoor into the TVA's office and rushed to find Mobius M. Mobius and Hunter B-15, claiming that someone was coming. However, Mobius and B-15 had no memory of Loki,[3] and eventually realized that he was a Variant, prompting them to chase him alongside several Minutemen. Loki pled with Mobius, who did not remember him, so Loki jumped off the ledge into a mail cart, which crashed into another room. Loki assured everyone that it was alright as the mail cart left and asked if Casey remembered him while the TVA sent out a notice about Loki fleeing to all personnel. Casey called out that he had found the intruder, but Loki then time slipped away.[8]

Attacks Across Time[]

―A Minuteman[src]

In their recent history, the TVA and its Minutemen started to tackle a new threat: a Variant of Loki, the Asgardian God of Mischief. The Loki Variant had been creating "nexus events"- the name given to new branches being formed in the timeline - and killing the Minutemen and Hunters that were sent to investigate the event. In 1549, Agent Mobius M. Mobius, a specialist in hunting particularly dangerous Variants, was sent alongside Hunter U-92 and his Minutemen to investigate Loki's attack in Aix-en-Provence, France- the sixth attack that week that they knew of.

Mobius noted the stab wounds on the Minutemen, identical to those found in previous attacks, the stolen reset charge, and that they were caught off-guard. U-92 and his Minutemen watched as Mobius questioned a young boy found at the crime scene, who claimed the attack was the work of the Devil. Mobius confiscated a modern stick of bubblegum the young had, and the group prepared to erase the timeline and leave; another TVA agent opened a portal to meet Mobius, informing him that another Variant of Loki had been apprehended by the TVA. The agents then left, while a Minuteman placed a reset charge, erasing the timeline.[6]

Arresting Variant L1130[]

―Hunter B-15 to Loki[src]

As this happened, Hunter B-15 and her Minutemen were sent to the Gobi Desert in Mongolia, where a new timeline had been branched in 2012. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered that the culprit of the nexus event was another Variant of Loki, who had stolen the Tesseract when a group of Avengers from the future were trying to steal it. Despite resisting arrest, B-15 and her Minutemen arrested the God of Mischief, bringing him into TVA custody for trial. As B-15 left with the Variant and the confiscated Tesseract, a Minuteman placed a reset charge, erasing the timeline created by Loki.

Loki is put on trial by the TVA

After being processed as a prisoner, Loki was brought before Judge Ravonna Renslayer, where Minutemen were stood as guards. Loki plead not guilty for causing the nexus event, pinning it on the Avengers; however, Renslayer informed Loki that the Avengers' actions were "supposed" to happen, whereas Loki's escape was not. Renslayer sentenced Loki to being reset, but Agent Mobius intervened, requesting he speak to Loki, hoping he could help them in their pursuit of the other Loki Variant. Despite Renslayer and B-15's skepticism, the former agreed to let Mobius question Loki. The two went to an interview room, where Minutemen stood outside, guarding. When B-15 called Mobius out of the room to talk, Loki used the opportunity to steal Mobius' Time Twister and teleport away.

Agent Mobius and Hunter B-15 commanded two groups of Minutemen as they searched for Loki, with both groups eventually finding him talking to a TVA clerk named Casey, having re-stolen the Tesseract. Loki would teleport away again, and B-15 would command the entire squadron of Minutemen while Mobius returned to the interview room, finding Loki there. Mobius would convince Loki to help the TVA, informing him that they needed his expertise because they were hunting an alternate version of him, surprising the Asgardian.[6]

Attack in Oklahoma[]

Hunter U-92 and his Minutemen investigate a nexus event

"Time signature is early third millennium. Definitely anachronistic."
―A Minuteman[src]

Hunter U-92 and his Minutemen investigated another nexus event, during 1858 in Salina, Oklahoma. Finding a futuristic item embedded in the dirt, a Minuteman scanned the item and determined it to be from the early third millennium, while U-92 noted that he smelled oil. As U-92 ordered his Minutemen to reset the timeline and leave, not believing a further investigation to be worth the paperwork, a Minuteman spotted a cloaked figure holding a lantern in the distance. The figure dropped the lantern, smashing it and igniting the oil on the floor, burning all of the Minutemen alive while U-92 desperately crawled towards the reset charge. Unfortunately, the figure grabbed U-92 before he could reset the timeline, killing him and taking the reset charge.[6]

Investigating Roxxcart Mall[]

Loki, Mobius, B-15, and other Minutemen went to Haven Hills, Alabama in 2050 to find the Variant. During the mission, Loki met the Variant and was too late to stop her from setting off numerous Reset Charges that fell through Timedoors and landed at different points throughout the Sacred Timeline. However, the TVA was able to stabilize the Sacred Timeline by pruning the branched timelines.[9]

Capturing the Loki Variants[]

The Variant, named Sylvie, used the chaos to try to attack the Time-Keepers, only to be stopped by Loki, Renslayer and some Minutemen. During a standoff, Sylvie held her sword to Loki's neck, threatening to kill him, but when Renslayer did not seem to care, Loki stole a TemPad from Sylvie and dropped both Variants through a Timedoor to Lamentis-1 in 2077, in the midst of a devastating apocalypse[4] After Loki and Sylvie started bonding in Lamentis-1, the TVA discovered them and placed them under arrest.[7]

Protecting the Time-Keepers[]

This section requires expansion

Hunter D-90 and other Minutemen were tasked by Renslayer to join her to confront Mobius M. Mobius after he and Loki returned from the Time Cell. D-90 then gave Renslayer her TemPad back to her and followed her orders to prune Mobius with his Time Stick. After being taken to the Time-Keepers' chamber, Loki and Sylvie escaped with B-15's aid and confronted the Time-Keepers, with Loki battling their guards while Sylvie facing Renslayer. When Sylvie threw her sword at one of them, and its head fell off, the two discovered that the Time-Keepers were actually androids. This left the true origin of the Time Variance Authority in question.[10] D-90 and several Minutemen rushed into the courtroom to save Renslayer, only for Sylvie to self herself to the Void.[3]

Discovering the Truth[]

This section requires expansion

After B-15 escaped from being in custody by Mobius, she snuck along on Hunter D-90's mission to Fremont, Ohio in 2018 to Franklin D. Roosevelt High School. There she entered the vice principal's office and was found by D-90 who asked her what she was doing there. They were then met by Rebecca Tourminet who was alarmed by their presence and asked what they were doing in her school. D-90 thought Tourminet was Ravonna Renslayer, but B-15 told him that that wasn't Renslayer and that she had to explain the truth about the TVA to him and the rest of the Minutemen.[3] B-15 sent out an order to stop pruning timelines.[8]

Attack on the Branching Timelines[]

Despite the order, General Dox and her loyaltists, led by Hunter X-05, began attacking the timelines, pruning multiple. However, Loki, Sylvie, and Mobius arrived and started destroying the equipment, causing Dox to realize the mission had been compromised. She ordered her loyalists to prune as many as they could. As the fight turned in favor of Loki, Mobius, and Sylvie, Dox realized that they were too late and ordered her soldiers to finish the mission. Dox and the rest of her loyalists were then incapacitated by a burst of magic from Loki and Sylvie. Dox was taken into custody, along with those of her loyalists that had not escaped, and brought back to the TVA by D-90.[11]

New Purpose[]

Following Loki's sacrifice, the TVA resumes normal operations, with B-15 and Casey helping to lead the organization to track down He Who Remains' variants. Miss Minutes is reprogrammed to be friendly by Ouroboros, who issues a new edition of the TVA Handbook that credits Victor Timely as co-author.[12] However, there were some agents, such as Mr. Paradox, who despised the new role of the TVA.[13]

―Minuteman and Deadpool[src]

Deadpool attacked Time Variance Authority agent Mr. Paradox and stole his TemPad, traveling back to his timeline to Logan's gravesite in 2029 to retrieve Logan, although when he dug up the grave, he was angered to find that Logan was truly dead. He was then confronted by a squad of Minutemen who demanded his surrender.
