"You little brats! You disgraced my name as conjurer and caused me to be thrown from my village!"
— Maloja to Goten and Trunks in Dragon Ball Z: Bio-Broly

Maloja (とう Kitōshi) is a shaman.

Broly - Second Coming[]

Maloja2

Maloja in Natade Village

Maloja arranges for people to be sacrificed once a year to protect Natade Village from a "monster". Despite the other villagers viewing this as insane, his arrangement was heeded anyway as they couldn't come up with any better explanations. Goten, Trunks, and Videl arrived at the village and defeated the monster, a dinosaur, in exchange for Maloja's necklace. Trunks also took the opportunity to briefly rub salt on the wound, causing the other villagers to laugh alongside Trunks at Maloja's expense. The next morning, presumably out of desperation to try and get his reputation back, he was heard yelling incantations, although he was knocked down when an ice flow had suddenly been destroyed by an unseen force. He often shouts out random words that he thinks are incantations.

It is revealed that after the monster was defeated, Maloja was banished from the village for his incompetence. Subsequently, Maloja took some of Broly's dried blood from the crater his space pod crashed in and took it to Lord Jaguar, knowing he would pay any price for it. Lord Jaguar used the blood sample to create a clone of Broly, a Bio-Warrior called Bio-Broly. While in his service, it seems that Maloja is planning on scamming Jaguar, as when Lord Jaguar demands to know why the Bio-Warriors are losing pathetically, Maloja has a worried expression and tries to find a way to sneak away from Jaguar. While slipping away, he was confronted by both Goten and Trunks, who stumbled upon Broly's clone and deduced Maloja's involvement. They assumed he rescued Broly somehow, only for him to correct them and state the original Broly was indeed dead and that what they discovered was in fact a genetically modified clone modeled after the Legendary Super Saiyan. When Goten tells him that the ramifications of cloning him would place the entire universe in danger, Maloja seems to have a horrified expression, but then takes the opportunity to flee onto the elevator and taunt that it's now their problem. After Jaguar reveals his gigantic lab and Bio-Broly breaks out of his tank, it releases a bunch of acidic Culture Fluid, which swallows up most of the scientists. Maloja goes to Jaguar's office and when he is done stealing all of Jaguar's money, he turns around to make his escape, and at that instant, he dies screaming due to the acidic Culture Fluid consuming him, also attempting to use an evil banishing prayer to ward off the Fluid, to no avail.

Trivia[]

  • For unspecified reasons, Maloja seems to know a lot about Broly and his status as the Legendary Super Saiyan. A possible explanation is that he witnessed most of the battle against Nappa and Vegeta on television, heard them refer to each other as Saiyans, and simply assumed Broly to be one of them. In the original Japanese version, Maloja simply knows of Broly's fate at the hands of the Dragon Team and his space pod's existence.
    • Alternatively, while watching the battle against Broly, he overheard Gohan's brief explanation of who Broly was to Goten, Trunks, and Videl shortly after he arrived on the scene.
    • Additionally, he may have also learned about who Broly was through Broly's Attack Ball (as Kakarot reveals that Attack Balls have onboard computers that can store information such as battle data or audio, which can be recovered and translated using Earth based technology provided the computer and/or its components are mostly intact).
  • Maloja acts as a recurring villain in Broly - Second Coming and Bio-Broly and is the only recurring minor villain to appear in more than two films, who's second appearance isn't a cameo (as various minor villains make brief cameo appearances in Fusion Reborn.
    • Maloja was responsible for the deaths of several Natade Village girls who were sacrificed to a Dinosaur the villagers and Maloja mistook for a monster. Additionally, he is directly responsible for the creation of Bio-Broly as he provided the blood sample used to clone the mutant Legendary Saiyan. As a result, his gruesome death via Culture Fluid is somewhat fitting given his evil actions in both Broly - Second Coming and Bio-Broly. Additionally, he dies as a result of his own greed as he is killed while trying to steal money from Lord Jaguar's office, basically robbing his benefactor, who unlike Maloja reforms after being rescued by Trunks.
