A Vampire (吸血鬼 Kyūketsuki) is a blood sucking living dead humanoid monster that roams Earth, attacking Earthlings and other animals.
Overview[]
The vampires of the Dragon Ball series are all very similar to their real-life counterparts in terms of their abilities to turn into bats, their blood diet and their weaknesses to garlic and religious related things. Unlike how vampires are usually shown in media, the ones in Dragon Ball appear to have no weakness to the sunlight, though Lucifer is a notable exception though he can apparently protect himself from it by wearing Sunglasses. However this weakness was enough for Lucifer to seek to use the Sleeping Princess to power his Devil Castle Cannon to destroy the Sun.
The Black Water Mist used by Garlic Jr. in the Garlic Jr. Saga turns everyone who breathes it into vampire-like creatures. Anyone bitten by one infected by the mist becomes exactly like them and worships Garlic Jr. and the Spice Boys. Chi-Chi, Bulma, Yamcha, Master Roshi, Oolong, and Puar were all infected by the Black Water Mist and attacked Gohan, Krillin, and Maron. Piccolo (himself a former Demon Clansmen) was bitten by them, and pretended to be infected.
Certain vampiric Monster-type Earthlings like Fangs the Vampire can be classified as Vampires.[1] Similarly vampiric Demons like Lucifer can also be classified as Vampires.
A number of unnamed characters in the series bear some resemblance to Fangs and the other vampire, but it is unknown if they are Monster-type Earthling Vampires like him. These unnamed characters are a member of the Toad Warriors, a member of the Battle Ball Team, and a few others.
In Jiya, Vamp is an ancient vampire living on Earth when he is possessed by a member of the Galactic Patrol named Steth who had been sent to determine if Earth was worth saving, as there was an astroid currently heading for Earth, and the only information the Galactic Patrol had on Earth came from ancient scrolls. Unfortunately, Steth enjoyed the pleasure he got from drinking blood from young women while in Vamp's body and decided to have fun by killing the Earthlings. Steth temporarily leaves Vamp's body to make his report and to travel to planet Kanoi in order to collect the native giant flea-like aliens called Mogans to use as underlings. Steth then possessed Vamp once more, turning the once benign vampire (as Vamp only drank enough blood to sustain himself and never enough to kill anyone). Fortunately, Steth's deception is uncovered by Jiya who defeats Steth forcing him to vacate Vamp's body and is killed by Jiya's Earthling ally Beniya Kaede. Jiya allows Vamp to leave in peace, seeing the vampiric monster as just another victim of Steth's crimes. Compared to vampires in Dragon Ball and Dr. Slump, Vamp's appearance is more monstrous and far less cartoonish.
Abilities[]
- Sucking Blood - The ability to drain a person's blood by biting them. Blood drinking is common trait among Vampires in the Dragon Ball series and related media.
- Flight - The ability to fly by using ki.
- Hikou - The ability to fly without ki by using wings or special mechanisms.
- Ki Blast - The most basic form of energy wave.
- Shapeshifting - The ability to change one's shape or, more commonly, one's form and appearance.
- Longevity - Vampires tend to be extremely long-lived individuals as shown by the five centuries old Fangs the Vampire in Dragon Ball and the centuries old Vamp in Jiya.
Video Game Appearances[]
Vampire enemies dressed like Count Drac appear in Buu's Fury and include stronger Vlad and Nosferatu variants; these three types can turn into bat in the game.
The basic enemies Bloodsucker, Vampire, and Red Vampire in Attack of the Saiyans are vampires modeled after Fangs.
Jiang Shi (Chinese blood sucking creatures) are common enemies in Revenge of King Piccolo.

Lucifer, lord of Devil's Castle
- Count Drac - A vampire who escaped Hell in Fusion Reborn.
- Fangs the Vampire - A Thai Boxing vampire who works as one of Baba's fighters.
- Trampire - A vampire who appears in Penguin Village. Originally from Other World where she used to work as a grim reaper for King Yemma, though was later fired due to the actions of Arale Norimaki.
- Lucifer[4] - A vampire who is both a Demon King and Demon God. He is the lord of Devil's Castle.
- Vamp - A vampire who has lived on Earth for ages who was possessed by the corrupt Galactic Patrol member Steth.
