- "Rest easy, nephew. You are home."
"But there's no time to rest, Uncle. War is here." - âT'Chaka and Erik Killmonger[src]
The Invasion of Wakanda was an open confrontation between the United States of America and Wakanda, as a part of the American-Wakandan War.
Background[]
- "I know what it's like to have someone taken from me, and if I had the chance to avenge my father, I wouldn't hesitate. These people murdered your son. Even if there's only a chance I'm legit, isn't it worth the risk?"
- âErik Killmonger[src]
Seeking to start the war between the United States of America and Wakanda, Erik Killmonger came up with a plan to manipulate Tony Stark into providing him with the resources he needed. Killmonger rescued Stark from the Ten Rings' attack and exposed Obadiah Stane's plans which allowed him to gain Stark's trust and a position inside Stark Industries.
Killmonger offered Stark to relaunch the Project Liberator, creating automated combat drones that would replace human troops in a ground warfare which he approved. They managed to create the first drone prototype and Killmonger suggested Stark to use vibranium as a self-sustaining power source. Stark sent James Rhodes to negotiate the purchasing vibranium from Ulysses Klaue, however, Klaue tipped the War Dogs. As a result, the purchase was interrupted by Black Panther who was later killed by Killmonger, as well as Rhodes.
T'Challa's death destabilized the political climate between the United States and Wakanda, however, Stark figured out that Killmonger was behind the murder of his best friend. Stark confronted Killmonger and deployed the Liberator Drone prototype against him, however, Killmonger took down the drone and killed Stark with the Vibranium Spear. The US military considered it a declaration of war from Wakandans and seized control of Stark Industries to mass-produce the drones for the upcoming war, using vibranium subsequently purchased from Klaue.
Killmonger eventually betrayed Klaue and killed him, bringing his body to Wakandans to get an audience with the Golden Tribe. Killmonger revealed to be the son of N'Jobu and the Prince of Wakanda, as well as warning them about the upcoming attack by the US military. Killmonger provided the Golden Tribe with the information about the Drones and suggested to use the country's protective barriers to disrupt their signal.[1]
Invasion[]

Upon T'Chaka's order, the warriors of the Border Tribe and Dora Milaje led by Ramonda arrived at the border, awaiting the attack. T'Chaka then ordered to open the protective barrier, allowing the Stark Liberator Drones to enter the country's perimeter, but once the barrier was closed again, the drones' signal was disrupted, leaving all drones offline. However, once the Wakandans dropped their guard, Erik Killmonger secretly reactivated the drones, making them launch the attack as planned but without the connection with the US military.
With the Border Tribe providing the cover, Ramonda ordered the Dora Milaje to engage in a battle with the drones. Dora Milaje launched a full-on attack, taking down the enemy, however, several drones managed to break through the Border Tribe's shields. Armed with the Vibranium Spear, Killmonger saddled up M20 and entered the battle to assist the Wakandan army. With the assistance of Killmonger and the Border Tribe on rhinoceros, Wakandans successfully defeated the drone battalion, taking the victory in the battle.[1]
Aftermath[]
- "Killmonger must be tried for murder under Wakandan law. The Americans can have him after we're finished."
- âShuri[src]
The invasion was merely a start of the full-on American-Wakandan war, as Thaddeus Ross gave an order to take down Wakanda at all costs. Erik Killmonger's participation in the war that brought Wakanda a victory that allowed him to earn the Wakandan's trust, as T'Chaka accepted him as both Prince of Wakanda and a new Black Panther. Killmonger was gifted with the heart-shaped herb which enhanced his abilities, as well as his personal Panther Habit.
Feeling suspicious of Killmonger, Shuri conducted her own investigation and found out that Killmonger was responsible for the death of Tony Stark. Shuri informed Pepper Potts about Killmonger's ulterior motives and formed an alliance with her to take him down for good.[1] Potts joined Shuri and the Dora Milaje at Wakanda preparing an attack on Killmonger, after he usurped the throne. However, Killmonger was recruited by The Watcher for the Guardians of the Multiverse and taken away from the universe before Shuri and Potts could confront him. Through the circumstances of his assistance to the Guardians in stopping Ultron, Killmonger initially never returned to his universe, preventing the Americans and Wakandans to taking him into custody to face trial for his crimes,[2] although he was eventually returned by Kahhori.[3]
