AC Odyssey: Conquest Assassin's Creed Odyssey Guide and Walkthrough

Last update: 22 December 2022

Conquest is a unique additional activity featured in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey which is related to the ongoing Peloponnesian War. The main character can help Spartans or Athenians in capturing or keeping control over regions. On this page you can learn how to learn who controls a given region, how to weaken a nation's control over a particular region and how to participate in Conquest battles either as a defender or an attacker.

Note - You can learn the basic Conquest mechanics during the second chapter (episode) of the main storyline, when you are in Megaris region. However, learning more about the Conquest mode and unlocking the related trophy/achievement requires you to participate in battles that take place in other regions.

Regions are fortified by default which means that their Nation Power is high. Your objective in Conquest is to weaken it.

A region's Nation Power is symbolized by the purple bar. You can check this information by moving your cursor over a region. Also, the game informs you about lowering this value by displaying a message in the bottom right corner of the screen (see the picture above).

How to lower Nation Power?

The game features a few ways in which you can weaken a region - AC Odyssey: Conquest - Tips - Assassins Creed Odyssey Guide

The game features a few ways in which you can weaken a region. You don't have to perform all the activities in a region that are described in the guide. Choose those actions that suit you the most or are the easiest to do.

The easiest way to lower Nation Power is to kill soldiers of the ruling faction. Remember that not all enemies found in a region are counted here. Only soldiers count. For example, the game counts only Athenian soldiers if that region belongs to Athens. You can find them in forts and other military facilities.

Another way of lowering Nation Power is to burn War Supplies - AC Odyssey: Conquest - Tips - Assassins Creed Odyssey Guide

Another way of lowering Nation Power is to burn War Supplies. They can differ between regions but the most common version of them are chests found in forts and camps. Burn them. The easiest way to do that is to use a torch. Take it out from your inventory and then drop it near supplies.

Note - Check supplies before you burn them. You will steal part of them (including a large amount of supplies).

The next method of lowering Nation Power is to loot Nation Chests - AC Odyssey: Conquest - Tips - Assassins Creed Odyssey Guide

The next method of lowering Nation Power is to loot Nation Chests. Each region has one or a few of these chests. These heavily guarded chests are kept in forts (see the picture above). Use Ikaros to locate them. Besides weakening a nation, looting these chests gives you resources and a lot of gold.

The last available method is to murder a Nation Leader of a given region - AC Odyssey: Conquest - Tips - Assassins Creed Odyssey Guide

The last available method is to murder a Nation Leader of a given region. This method is very efficient in lowering Nation Power but it is also more troublesome.

A Nation Leader is almost never known to you when you visit a region for the first time. You can find his grey icon on the map or you can visit a Leader's house usually located in the main city or village (see the picture above).

A fortified region means that a Nation Leader will be heavily guarded - AC Odyssey: Conquest - Tips - Assassins Creed Odyssey Guide

A fortified region means that a Nation Leader will be heavily guarded. You can try to assassinate him but this leader can, i.e. have personal guards or stay in a location with multiple soldiers. Wait with attacking a Nation Leader until you weaken a given region. By lowering a Nation Power you will have easier time assassinating a Leader. He can, i.e. lose personal guards or leave a guarded area.

2 battle markers will appear on a region's map:

  1. The picture 1 shows a battle played on the defender's side, that is the one that you have weakened. You can help this nation in regaining control over this region. This battle is easier to win but it doesn't offer good rewards.
  2. The picture 2 shows a battle played on the attacker's side, that is the one that wants to control this region. This battle is more difficult to win but it offers better rewards.

Conquest battles

Start a Conquest battle by speaking with one of the commanders marked on the map - AC Odyssey: Conquest - Tips - Assassins Creed Odyssey Guide

Start a Conquest battle by speaking with one of the commanders marked on the map. Attack weaker enemies and wait for the game to mark another hostile captain. Focus only on killing these enemies - a dead captain is a great loss for the opposing side. Once a captain is dead, you can go back to killing regular soldiers. Wait for the game to mark another captain.

You can come across additional enemies - mercenaries who work for the enemy - AC Odyssey: Conquest - Tips - Assassins Creed Odyssey Guide

You can come across additional enemies - mercenaries who work for the enemy. The fight with a mercenary can happen when they were hunting you before the start of a Conquest battle (think about paying the bounty for your head) or when you want to help the attackers. Rely on your strongest attacks to defeat these enemies. Also, don't let this fight drag for too long.

You can notice two bars located in the upper part of the screen - AC Odyssey: Conquest - Tips - Assassins Creed Odyssey Guide

You can notice two bars located in the upper part of the screen. Blue bar represents power of your allied nation, red represents your enemies. Deplete the red bar to win a battle.

You can lose a battle when your character dies or when you take too long to kill enemy captains and mercenaries. Many of your allies can die in the meantime.

Check the battles summary - AC Odyssey: Conquest - Tips - Assassins Creed Odyssey Guide

Check the battle's summary. If you won, you will receive various rewards. You can get XP, gold, rare materials, unique weapons or pieces of armor.

Important note: Completing a Conquest battle doesn't mean that you can't do it again in a given region. If you want to start all over again, you can weaken the currently ruling nation. After that the game will unlock a new Conquest battle.
