Ashen Guardian's Notes is a Riddle Map in which the player will find clues how to find a valuable treasure chest - Ashen Chest. Ashen Guardian's Notes - how to obtain it?
Ashen Guardian's Notes can be obtained by defeating one of the skeleton captains, for example an Ashen Guardian. These skeletons are much stronger than regular skeletons and better armed. An Ashen Guardian has 3 types of weapons: a cutlass, a Flintlock, and a Blunderbuss. What's more, it has a few bananas in the pockets that can be used to regenerate a total of 100 health points.
If you want to search for one of the skeleton captains, search the shores of the islands - an Ashen Guardian doesn't go deep into the land. There is also a small chance for one of these enemies to appear while you explore an island.
Riddle Map - how to solve the riddle and obtain an Ashen Chest?
Once you acquired an Ashen Guardian's Notes, it's time to pick up the letter and activate the task. A Riddle Map will appear in your inventory. Each newly opened map features only a single uncovered verse. Other verses are blurred and cannot be read immediately. First, the players must find the island related to the riddle and set foot on it. This will uncover another verse of the riddle.
In our case we had to find the island called The Sunken Grove. Once we reached the island, the Riddle Map revealed more text. The short text informed us that we must go somewhere southeast and find a place with large fangs.
By using the compass, we went in the southeast direction mentioned in the letter and found the location with fangs. The second part of the revealed verse told us to hit a string, so we used an instrument and played a melody. As soon as we started playing music, we noticed that the skull inside the chest started glowing with a weird light. This activated the next phase of the riddle.
It seems that we are on the right track to our treasure - another verse appeared in our riddle map. This time we must go north and find a white flag. Then we must read the letter again.
We searched the whole area of The Sunken Grove and found only a single spot that fits the riddle. A white flag somewhere in the north has proved to be a piece of white material hanging on a provisional pole.
Once we read the letter again, the final verse of the riddle will appeared before our eyes. Nowe we must find a totem made of 3 skulls somewhere southeast. Then we must count 8 steps northeast and start digging.
We did as the riddle told and we found an Ashen Chest! Unlike some ordinary chests, the Ashen Chest is locked and must be opened by using a special key - the Ashen Key. After opening the chest the player will obtain 3 rewards, including one guaranteed one - an Ashen Tome. The other two rewards are drawn from the following pool:
- 5 doubloons;
- 1,000 gold coins;
- Ritual Skull (worth 10 doubloons);
- Roaring Goblet (worth about 200 gold coins + 750 reputation points);
- Brimstone Casket (from 280 to 500 gold coins + 1 500 reputation points);
- Devil's Remnant (from 500 to 1 100 gold coins + 2 400 reputation points);
- Magma's Grail (from 1 100 to 2 100 gold coins + 6 000 reputation points);
- Additional Ashen Tome.
Ashen Key - how to obtain it
Ashen Key is one of the types of keys that can be found in Sea of Thieves. It is needed for opening valuable Ashen Chests. Here are some ways of obtaining an Ashen Key:
- An Ashen Key can be obtained by defeating a special type of skeleton captain called the Ashen Key Master;
- If you are fishing with no bait, you have a very small chance of catching Ashen Key;
- Ashen Key is a guaranteed reward from Ashen Key Stash Voyage, an item that can be bought in the Black Market unique store for 99 doubloons.
