The East City Police Chief, as seen in "The Darkest Day"

The Police are one of Earth's two protection factions, the other one being the army. Many other planets have their own police forces similar to Earth, with the Galactic Patrolmen watching over the Northern Galaxy.

Overview[]

Police on Earth[]

Goodlaunchpolice

The police of Brown Country with Launch

The police on Earth in the Dragon Ball franchise are all very similar to their real life counterparts. Their main purpose seems to be protecting single cities and towns that do not require the work of the two military groups. Their weaponry and such are also more limited, such as only the use of smaller guns and occasionally Rocket Launchers etc. As far as their transportation goes, they use scooters, motorcycles and different kinds of police cars and hovercars. A notable member of the Motorcycle Police Squad is a policewoman modeled after and voiced by the Olympic gold-medalist Kaori Matsumoto in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods; the policewoman observes the battle against the God of Destruction Beerus from afar and wonders if Capsule Corporation is using fireworks without a permit again when she sees an explosion cause by one of Vegeta's attacks on the God of Destruction (presumably Vegeta's training may have caused certain explosive results in the past that the West City Police have come to attribute to fireworks similar to how Shenron and Porunga summoning were assumed to be weird experiments).

During the Red Ribbon Army war, police officers were powerless to stand up to the military might of the criminal Red Ribbon Army as shown by the Penguin Village Police upon learning a member of the Red Ribbon Army was in the village and by the time they mobilized to deal with the threat, Arale Norimaki and the Gatchans had defeated him.

Krillin SH

Krillin's new Police Uniform in Super Hero

Notably, Krillin becomes a police officer after not wanting to be a fighter any longer because Goku has gotten much stronger than he did, even after fighting Beerus and became a Super Saiyan God. However even after becoming a police officer, Krillin still fights to protect the Earth and his family from threats such as when the revived Frieza invaded with the Frieza Force after his training. Due to his strength and abilities as a martial artist it is implied that Krillin is an excellent police officer, and he is shown to take his job seriously to the point he is even willing to give Bulma a ticket for speeding in Dragon Ball Super despite the fact that she is an old friend of his whom Krillin himself has noted is even more terrifying than Frieza when angered. Ironically, in his youth Krillin along with Goku in advertently aided Launch in escaping from the police trying to arrest Good Launch for the crimes of Bad Launch, though they did not realize it at the time and were simply protecting the good-natured Launch who became a good friend of theirs along with her bad personality.

In Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Krillin can be seen wearing a new police uniform which features the addition of a western style police badge. During the Super Hero Saga, it is revealed he works for the Sunset City Police Department.

After the Cell Games, Android 17 became a Royal Park Ranger who uses his strength protects Earth's wildlife from poachers. The Park Rangers is a specialized form of law enforcement that police parks and protect areas like Monster Island from illegal poaching. Goten and Trunks act as Rangers protecting the endangered wildlife of Monster Island for Android 17 when he participates in the Tournament of Power, goes on vacation with his family after the tournament, and during the conflict with the Moro Corps.

East City Police Arrive

East City Sea Police in Jaco the Galactic Patrolman

In Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, Tamagoro Katayude is the Chief of East City's Sea Police who travels to Omori's Island along with several other officials to inform Tokunoshin Omori he has a week to vacate the place as they want to turn the island into a resort for politicians. Before leaving the island, Katayude spots the Galactic Patrolman Jaco. Jaco talks to Omori about them and an angry Jaco sinks their ship with a rock, forcing Katayude and the officials to escape via life raft. Later after returning home, Katayude sees Jaco on the news and remembers seeing him on Omori's Island. Katayude returns to the island with his four subordinates Aosa, Hijiki, Hondawara, and Mozuku to get Jaco. However, Katayude's subordinates are no match against the "Super Elite" Galactic Patrolman who defeats them. Katayude and his subordinates then witness Jaco and Omori rescue Tights and the pilot of An Azuki's Twinkle 8 rocket after it falls from the sky. Jaco kicks the rocket away from the city and destroys it with his Elite Beam Gun. After witnessing the whole scene, Katayude and his subordinates salute Jaco, forgiving and thanking him for saving the city from being hit by the Twinkle 8 and decide to leave Omori Island alone. Katayude himself would befriend Omori, Tights, and Jaco with him and Jaco finding common ground as members of law enforcement. The Sea Police's Special Forces Unit is a group of Ninja lead by Commander Hondawara and Vice-Commander Hijiki. They primarily wield guns and swords though despite being Ninja the entire unit is inferior to Jaco who has superhuman strength and access to a Ray Gun and Extinction Bomb.

WestPoliceman

They seem to have ranks that are all from the real world, such as sheriffs and chiefs. The police sometimes use wanted posters. The uniforms are near perfect replicas of the real-life police, with the use of hats, helmets and blue uniforms, as well as the use of handcuffs to arrest the opposition and occasionally a microphone to give speeches.

The police in the Dragon Ball franchise are rarely if ever shown using animals in their squads. In fact, some are anthropomorphic animals themselves. The police are seen many times in the series attempting to arrest and sometimes even kill the villains. However, they always failed in doing so (usually getting killed or injured in the effort).

In Go! Go! Ackman, the Earth's police arrest Ackman's angelic nemesis Tenshi when the angel's recklessness inadvertently leads to a school bus full of children being killed when the bus is hit by a Missile he launched at Ackman.

During the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga, Krillin is temporarily deputized by Jaco into the Galactic Patrol along with Gohan and Piccolo due the threat posed to Earth by Planet Eater Moro and his army of escaped galactic criminals the Galactic Bandit Brigade making him the only Earth police officer to become a member of the Galactic Patrol. Ranger Android 17 is also recruited to help the Galactic Patrol combat the Ki stealing powers of Moro and Alien Android Seven-Three as his infinite energy and lack of ki could counter their ability.

Galactic Police[]

Imeckian Police

Imeckian police

Police also exist on other planets, such as Imecka, and a Cosmic Police Organization even exists in the universe. However, they do not have enough power to oppose the Frieza Force and the Saiyans.[1] In Dragon Ball: Episode of Bardock, upon his arrival on Planet Plant, Chilled decides to disguise himself and his soldiers as members of the Space Police in order to trick the indigenous population into revealing what happened to his two men, Toobi and Cabira, and bring whoever defeated them to him. Turles' second in command Amond was originally an atrocious criminal who rampaged throughout the entire galaxy before being arrested by the Galactic Police and imprisoned on planet Nutts.[2] A Galactic Patrolman named Jaco is the main protagonist in the manga Jaco the Galactic Patrolman: he came to Earth in order to stop a dangerous invader, Goku. Jaco says that the Galaxy Patrol only has 38 members, and they operate under the direct orders of the Galactic King, who is shown to be a Martian in a flashback that also shows a Namekian and a alien in their ranks. It is very hard to become one, as currently, there is only a 5/9 (55%) chance to become one. Jaco also says he is the third shortest member of the Galactic Patrol, and he is 4'10".[3] The Galactic Patrol is also featured the other manga part of Akira Toriyama's "Galactic Patrol series": Sachi-chan Gū!! and Jiya.[4]

In Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission, Sealas is a former Galactic Patrolman who was the first person recruited by Chronoa to join her Time Patrol. However, his uncompromising sense of justice made it difficult for him to abide by the Time Patrol's rules against altering history and after seeing the destruction caused by Kid Buu he wanted to destroy him but was stopped by Chronoa and left the Time Patrol. Even after leaving the Galactic Patrol, Sealas retains its modern symbol on his chest which he keeps even after he chooses to fulfil his desire to create a more just universe by destroying the Scroll of Eternity to rewrite history as he sees fit.

Catopesra of Universe 3 is a policeman.

Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc

The Galactic Patrol with Goku and Vegeta wearing Galactic Patrol Uniforms with Planet Eater Moro in the background from the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga

The Galactic Patrol of Universe 7 plays an important role in the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga. It is revealed that in the 10 Million Before Age the Galactic Police arrested Planet Eater Moro after he was defeated by Grand Supreme Kai and South Supreme Kai. Moro was sentenced to death for his crimes but no one in the Galactic Police where strong enough to kill him thus Moro was imprisoned by the Galactic Police until someone strong enough to carry out Moro's sentence appeared. 10 million years later, Grand Supreme Kai's seal on Moro's magic weakened allowing Moro to regain enough magic power to escape. The modern-day Galactic Patrol assigned their top patrolman Merus to retrieve Good Buu to restore Grand Supreme Kai's memories. However, he came in conflict with Goku and Vegeta who were unaware of the situation. Merus knocked them out with his stun gun and brought them and Good Buu with him to Galactic Patrol HQ. Goku and Vegeta learned of Moro's escape and were temporarily deputized to work for the Galactic Patrol as their God-like strength and experience fighting against some of the Multiverse's most powerful fighters would be useful in confronting Moro. However, Moro uses the Namekian Dragon Balls to restore his youth and free the Galactic Patrol Prisoners from the Galactic Prison. Goku is forced to flee via Instant Transmission with Merus, Jaco, and Grand Supreme Kai while Vegeta and Irico flee via spaceship. At Galactic Patrol HQ, Goku decides to train with Merus after learning about Merus' Automatic Defense ability which Goku notes is similar to Autonomous Ultra Instinct. Meanwhile, Irico and Vegeta travel to Planet Yardrat so Vegeta can learn Spirit Control from Goku's old Yardrat teacher Pybara. Eventually it is revealed by Whis that Merus is actually his brother who is an Angel in training that was sent to live among mortals in Universe 7 by their father the Grand Minister. As Merus planned to confront Moro using his full abilities, Whis' intervened to stop his brother from violating Angel law against direct interference in mortal affairs which would have resulted in Merus' eradication. Merus is forced to give up his membership with the Galactic Patrol and return home, leaving Moro's defeat up to Goku and Vegeta. Additionally, Jaco traveled to Earth to deputize Piccolo, Gohan, and Krillin as their strength would be needed to defend Earth from the Galactic Bandit Brigade and there master Moro.

After fighting off the criminals who retreated giving the Galactic Patrol and Dragon Team time to prepare. Eventually Jaco deputized Master Roshi, Yamcha, Tien, Chiaotzu, and Android 17 as well. Meanwhile the Capsule Corporation hired Android 18 as her Android abilities could counter Seven-Three and Moro's Ki stealing due to her Infinite Energy and lack of ki. Android 18 was paid 10 million Zeni for her services.

The Sugarians living on Cereal have their own local police force. They wear police uniforms and wield police batons similar to those used by the police of Earth.

Video Game Appearances[]

DBOPoliceman

A policeman in Dragon Ball Online

The West City Police Officer appears in Dragon Ball: Daimaō Fukkatsu.

The two policemen from Brown Country are enemies in Dragon Ball Z: Super Gokuden: Totsugeki-Hen and Dragon Ball: Origins.

The East City Police Chief and the policemen from Brown Country appear in the city located between The Lookout and Paprika Wasteland in Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku.

Human and anthropomorphic dog policemen appear in Dragon Ball Online.

The Penguin Village Police Force appears in Dr. Slump: Arale-Chan.

In Dragon Ball Xenoverse, Galactic Patrolman Jaco appears as a playable character and in the Resurrection ‘F’ Pack DLC, Jaco mistakenly believes the Future Warrior is a member Galactic Police and that Toki Toki City is one of the Galactic Police's remote outposts. Jaco will often mention Galactic Police Headquarters and at the end of the Warrior's training tries to get the Warrior promoted to work with him at headquarters by filming a video of their abilities to show to the Galactic King, though his plan fails as he forgot to put a tape in his camera, and comes to the conclusion that they will have to work their way up the ranks on their own, still unaware they are a Time Patroller working under Chronoa. If the Future Warrior is Namekian, Jaco will mention knowing a Namekian member of the Galactic Police and assumes that the Warrior is a relative of that Namekian, due to his limited understanding on how Nameks reproduce.

DBXV2 Kame House (Interior) Krillin's Police Vehicle (Vehicle model dresser)

Krillin's Police Vehicle model inside Kame House in Xenoverse 2

In Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Krillin's Police Helmet appears as a wearable accessory which can be purchased by the Future Warrior from the Accessory Shop in Conton City after completing the Resurrection ‘F’ portion of the main story. Also, Jaco returns as a playable character who is playable from the start. Additionally Android 18 mentions Krillin's job as a police officer during 18 and Krillin's special Instructor Event at the Time Patroller Academy. Unhappy to learn he has been working as an instructor for free, 18 asks about his job as a police officer, though Krillin reveals he is receiving paid vacation time and notes that he is considered a great officer. Additionally, a model of Krillin's Police Vehicle randomly appears on the dresser next to the door inside Kame House.

While Conton City is not shown to have an official police force, groups of Time Patrollers are apparently assigned to keep the peace in troublesome areas such as the Seed Unit which was stationed to police the Mushroom District in the northeastern portion of Conton City as it had become home to the Nutz Gang a group of disillusioned Time Patrollers who had become petty criminals who claimed it as their territory engaging in extortion of other Time Patrollers. Additionally, it is illegal to fire energy waves within Conton City limits and unnecessarily altering history is the gravest offense a Time Patroller can commit. However, the penalty for violating said laws and how they are enforced is unknown though Chronoa tends to be lenient if Time Patrollers break the rules unintentionally. However, despite Chronoa's apparent lax enforcement most Time Patrollers abide by the laws with three rookie Time Patrollers even note that they cannot fly off to fight the Frieza Force during Frieza's Siege despite the fact that the law only applies when off duty according to Chronoa in the recruitment video implying most Time Patrollers take the laws seriously though in the case of Frieza's Siege it may have been a convenient excuse not to fight.

In Dragon Ball FighterZ, when facing one of his clones in the Super Warrior Arc, Krillin notes that people could easily mistake it for himself and worries that it could affect his reputation as a police officer, thus he resolves to eliminate the Krillin clones in order to protect his reputation and keep his job.

In Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, the Z-Encyclopedia has an entry for Police Car in its Vehicles section. The entry reveals that while most departments use hovercars for high-speed chases, gasoline engine cars are still used for basic patrol duty. During the Intermission after the Frieza Saga, a police Hovercar can be seen on the side of the road where two policemen are talking to an old man called Discouraged Man. As it turns out the old man's illegally parked car was stolen by a shaggy-haired man carrying a sword (which matches Yajirobe's description). The officer with the beard and mustache is called Puzzled Police Officer while his partner is simply called Investigator. The Puzzled Police Officer questions the suspect description as he is unsure if there are still people out there that still carry swords. The Investigator notes there have been a lot of Hovercar thefts lately (as Orange City is noted by various residents to be a crime ridden city which makes sense given its where Gohan would later begin his crime fighting career as Great Saiyaman). Additionally, on the side of the northeast road leading into Gingertown, an officer can be seen near his police Hovercar performing a routine traffic stop on a hovercar driver.

In Dragon Ball: The Breakers, Survivors can obtain different color Police Officer Costume Set (Police Uniform Shirt & Police Uniform Pants) as clothing & Krillin's Police Helmet as an accessory. Additionally, Krillin's Police airbike is named High-Performance Motorbike which appears as a vehicle that can be used by Survivors as transportation while inside Temporal Seams.

Trivia[]

  • The policeman who works in a Central City prison[7] looks similar to the policeman from West City who also appears in the manga. Both are voiced by Koji Totani. One of the policemen who appear in Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13! also resembles them.
  • Another policeman from Central City looks like Charmy Yamada. He appears in the Dragon Ball episode "Lost and Found".
  • It is implied that Krillin is a well-respected officer due to his strength, abilities, and dedication to his job. He is also shown to be brave under fire which makes sense seeing as armed criminals cannot compare to some of Universe 7's greatest villains such as Frieza, the Ginyu Force, Cell, and Super Buu.
    • Additionally its possible some members of the force may at least be aware of Krillin's participation in both the World Martial Arts Tournament and Cell Games as his world tournament records are presumably public knowledge as is the surviving footage from the Cell Games which is an important historical record of the event (additionally with his head shaved Krillin is easily identifiable as he is short, bald, seemingly nose-less, and forehead markings from his time as a monk).
  • Ironically in his youth, Krillin and Goku unknowingly aided and abetted the bank robber Launch in escaping from the police. However, it should be noted that they were trying to arrest Good Launch when it was actually her Bad self that perpetrated the crimes and with the exception of Krillin himself, police are seemingly unaware of her odd shifts personality when she sneezes. It is unknown how Krillin would deal with Bad Launch were she to commit a crime within his jurisdiction given she is an old friend despite her criminal behavior (though he was willing to give Bulma a ticket in DBS it should be noted that was a simple traffic violation and Bulma is a member of the wealthiest family on the planet thus could easily pay it a fact which Krillin is well aware of). It is also unknown how Bad Launch who is a criminal would react to him becoming a member of law enforcement.
  • Though it has never been referred to as a police force per se, the Time Patrol acts as a temporal police force that serve under the Supreme Kai of Time Chronoa to enforce the laws of nature concerning time that govern the universe and prevent history from being altered by those who abuse time travel (save for those cases that are considered part of the official history such as Future Trunks and Cell, though Future Trunks serves the Supreme Kai of Time as an assistant as a form of atonement for his role in altering history). Thus, the entire Time Patrol might be considering a form of law enforcement albeit a unique one.
  • Under the galactic law, the Galactic Police can arrest people for the construction of Time Machines as well as those capable of manipulating time itself via techniques such as Time-Skip (though the Galactic King and Jaco decided to overlook Hit's use of the technique given his power and reputation as Universe 6's Legendary Assassin which far exceed even the tyrant Frieza). However, in Dragon Ball Xenoverse, it is revealed by Jaco's reaction to the Future Warrior's telling him that vehicles in the Time Machine Station are Time Machines (Jaco assumes that it was simply a poor attempt at a joke, as the penalty for creating one is to be exiled to another planet), that it is a different law from the one made by the Supreme Kai of Time in the wake of Future Trunks' first successful use of his mother's Time Machine. This means that the Galactic Law against Time Machines is likely unrelated, to the Supreme Kai of Time's laws concerning time travel and Time Machines.
    • Additionally, in Xenoverse 2, a Majin Time Patroller fears she and her fellow Patrollers might be arrested by Jaco if he finds out they are Time Patrollers, proving they are separate organizations that apparently enforce different laws governing time. However, Jaco is shown to be aware of the Time Patrol's mission while working as an instructor in Xenoverse 2 and has no issue with the Warrior's occupation, presumably because he recognizes Chronoa's authority over time exceeds any galactic law. He is also likely mindful of the fact that the Supreme Kai of Time and most of the Time Patrol are far stronger than Galactic King and Galactic Patrol which are known weaker than Frieza before his first death.
    • Also, in World Mission it is revealed that the first Time Patroller was a former Galactic Patrolman named Sealas who still wore the modern Galactic Patrol symbol, even after joining the Time Patrol. This fact along with the Galactic Patrol's history of working alongside the Supreme Kais of Universe 7, it is possible that the Galactic Patrol is aware of Chronoa and/or accepts her authority over time and the official history.
