Ashes of War are special items that allow you to change the active skill of your weapon. Thanks to them, you can exchange your weapon skill for a completely new one. You activate them by pressing the button responsible for using skills. Spirit Ashes, on the other hand, are items that, when activated, summon spirit companions that will help you in combat.

To get Warhawk Ashes you need to find the Prophecy Painting found in Stormveil Castle, not far from Rampart Tower site of grace. Leave the buidling, descend down the stairs while avoiding the ogre and the dog, and turn right. The painting is inside.
Now travel to the Church of Pilgrimage. You should encounter a sitting spirit at the back of the church. Stay by it for a moment - the spirit will disolve, while you'll be rewarded with a new Spirit Ash.

Go to the Tombsward Catacombs, then defeat the Cemetery Shade.
