In Songs of Conquest, thought-out choosing of abilities may increase the effectiveness and usefulness of your Wielders. On this page of our guide, you can find a list of best skills. Additionally, we prepared a summary of recommended Powers that are available for buying every 8 levels.

Recommended abilities
Here is a list of recommended skills which should take priority when unlocking/upgrading. It is not definitive and you can apply modifications based on chosen faction, used Spells, and choice of units comprising your army.
- Command - upgrade it as high as you can and always keep a Troop Slot free in case there is an opportunity to add new forces.
- Magic - start with developing 2 skills connected to individual Essences that your hero uses most of the time to cast spells.
- Channeling / Melee / Archery - choose from this group the skill that best corresponds with your current army composition e.g. predominance of melee or spell-casting units.
- Combat Training - investing in this skill increases the overall damage dealt by your troops.
- Tutor - it is recommended to unlock at least level 1 of this skill to speed up your wielders' development.
Command
This is a very important skill if you want to lead more troops to battle. Each level unlocks 1 new Troop Slot to be taken by military units. Be sure to purchase at least 2-3 levels early in the game.
Prepared
This skill comes into play during combat. Thanks to it, you can increase the Initiative of your units. In addition, at its highest, third, level, the Movement of your forces is increased by 1.
Raider
The most important aspect of this skill is a bigger gold yield when looting. Additionally, it improves View Radius and at the highest level, can increase Movement. We recommend buying at least 1 level.
Magic
There are separate skills for different types of Essences. For each spell-oriented Wielder, focus on developing 2-3 of the Essences used to cast your favourite spells.
March
This skill increases Movement of a Wielder, and on the highest, third, level, you can move by 4 more points. This is especially useful on large maps.
Tutor
This skill can help with keeping all Wielders on the same experience level. By interacting between them (exchange window) you can speed up XP gain in less developed Wielders.
Learning
With this skill, the XP gain from all XP-rewarding actions is increased - up to 45%. This way, your Wielder will level up much faster.
Protection / Magic Resistance / Positioning
With these skills, you can increase resistance to different types of attacks. We recommend buying at least initial levels of each resistance and more if, for example, your army is almost entirely comprised of ranged units.
Essence Leech
This skill allows generating more Essence points and thus use spells more often. The free Essence gain is received at the moment of death of the last unit from enemy army.
Channeling / Melee / Archery
Through these skills, you can increase the damage dealt of individual types of attacks. For guidance on what abilities to buy, look at your army composition e.g. invest in Melee if you have a lot of melee units.
Cunning
This is a skill thanks to which in 2-3 initial turns of a battle, your units' statistics are improved. This will increase their attack and defense.
Combat Training
This skill can increase the damage dealt of all units from your army. Additionally, at the highest, third, level, your units can Retaliate one more time.
Best powers
Powers are chosen every 8 levels, starting from the moment your hero levels up to level 8. Each of them can also be upgraded to level 2 instead of choosing a new Power. The recommended powers are:
- Brutal - increases the damage dealt of every unit.
- Farsight - increases the Range and Deadly Range of ranged units. Especially useful when you have a lot of ranged units.
- Attuned and Essence Burst - improves Essence gain (per turn or one-time bonus at the start of a battle)
- Rigor - additional hit points for every unit.
- Levy - you can recruit more units from buildings in settlements (even up to 80% more at level 2 of the Power).
