Last update: 25 April 2022
Here you will learn how to heal yourself and your companions in The Serpent Rogue. You will learn how to brew Health Potions, how to recover health by resting, how to heal your followers and what happens when your character dies.
How to heal?
In The Serpent Rogue, you can easily heal yourself with healing potions or by resting on a bench or chair at the expense of hunger (2 HP healed per one hunger point). You can only heal yourself using potions with the Vitality property in their description, which is preceded by how much health they restore.
As long as you have enough food, it's a good idea to rest and save your potions for when you battle. Every minute, you and your followers will regenerate 2 health points passively. You can only rest as a human, not as a skeleton.
How to brew health potions?
To brew a health potion, you first need to obtain and discover the right ingredients. These are:
- Berries - you can find them in the east of the Camp area,
- Aloe - close to the berries, but a little more to the south,
- Egg Shells/Fishbone/Claw - each of these ingredients will increase the potion's potency by 5/10/20. It's best to use bigger multipliers to start brewing strong potions as early as possible. The easiest way to start off is by fishing for Fishbones using Worms in the pond in the Abandoned Camp area.
Bring all these ingredients to the table in the Abandoned House or your Portable Lab. Place all ingredients in the lower slots (in any order) and create a potion by pressing R. Once prepared, you can drink the potion from the inventory screen or assign it to one of the quick access slots.
Death
When you die, you will respawn in the closest safe location. Unfortunately, your items will remain where you died. If you die again before you can recover them, they will be lost forever. Your items will also disappear if you die in the Wasteland before a Corruption Storm, as it will remove everything in the area.
After respawning, you will be exhausted: your hunger bar will drop to 0, preventing you from running and fighting effectively. For this reason, you should only bring what's necessary when you venture into unfamiliar locations and dangerous areas. When you die, you will revert to your original state - regardless of whether you were transformed into a skeleton or a monster.
How to heal followers?
The easiest way to heal your followers is to use health potions. Take one in your hand and simply throw it at your follower. Even if you give them potions, your followers won't automatically use them.
Hint: when casting, if you order your followers to stand close to each other, the healing effect will affect all of them.
You also have the option to talk to them and send them to the camp, where they will passively recover health over time while waiting for you. However, they won't be able to heal unless they have food.
To feed your (living) followers, you have to deposit food in the Pantry, i.e. the building on the right in the Camp area, next to the berry bushes.
To feed animals, you need to discover the type of food they eat (Discovery -> log). Then place the correct food in the pasture in the yard (you can mix different types of food if you have different animals and they will pick out their preferred feed when hungry).
