In The Serpent Rogue, you can tame monsters, but also recruit them, just like human allies (followers). On this page, you can read how to recruit people/skeletons, monsters, where to do it and how much it costs.
Recruiting people
To start recruiting, you need to complete The Looming Vines quest in the Camp. Just get a torch and make your way through the undergrowth blocking the way to the Pier.
Here, after talking to the Harbourmaster, a countdown to the arrival of the ship with random four potential recruits will begin. Followers are paid with gold.
You can choose from 4 different followers each time. They differ in stats and items. The cheapest followers can cost 1-2 gold pieces (although they do not necessarily have great stats). There are always two cheaper and two more expensive candidates available. Usually, the high price is related to their inventory - you can check this before making a transaction.
If you have a lot of gold, you can look for recruits with unique and rare items and then take these items for yourself.
Upgrading followers
Remember that you can manipulate certain stats of your allies with the right potions. This way you can change their gender and age, or turn them into skeletons. For this reason, it is worth investing in cheap followers and improving their statistics. The key debuff that the cheapest allies have is Soulless, which lowers their maximum health. You will heal this status with the Soulfulness potion. Information on the available potions and their recipes can be found on the Potion recipes page.
Recruiting monsters
Behind the Swamps, when following the path to the northeast, you will find the Mavka's Shelter location. Here, at the specified time, you will be able to recruit monsters. Talk to Mavka while he is playing a tune on the balcony.
To be able to recruit monsters, complete the Mavka's Keep side quest, which requires you to free the four Husis. You can complete this quest without accepting it, even before reaching Mavka's Shelter for the first time.
Compared to the previous recruitment model, this time you are recruiting animals by spending Butterflies. Some animals are in regular form, others as skeletons. The price depends on the strength. Some animals may have an item typical for them (like Black Feather carried by a Valravn), others not - you can check this by examining their inventory.
The easiest way to catch the Butterflies is to go to the Church and change into a Toad. By holding down the block button, you will be able to use your long tongue to reach for distant objects, including butterflies. It's best to use the Restless form, so you won't have to worry about the green hunger bar.
