Information about morphing
Your character can transform by drinking potions containing the essence of Change (e.g. Change Rat). Depending on the form you take, you'll be able to explore previously inaccessible areas or your battle prowess might improve. To transform, you'll need specific potions. The transformation can be reversed at any time by pressing R.
If you don't plan ahead, you'll encounter problems related to your carrying capacity - the smaller the animal, the less they can carry. It's a good idea to put any unneeded items in your hideout's chest beforehand. You'll have a better idea of what you want to morph into by researching new monsters and adding pages to the bestiary.
If you were a Restless in your human form, you will stay this way when you morph into an animal; unless a given species, such as the Faun, is unable to take this form.
Whom to morph?
Interestingly, you can transmute anyone. This applies to:
- The main character, allowing you to gain new skills and find new ways to interact with the world
- Animals and monsters in the game world (with the exception of the most powerful ones, which are Immune). This will enable you to find rare creatures to tame (the creatures' inventory will not change) or deal with enemies easier,
- Followers - regardless whether they are animals or humans - have you tamed a chicken? Morph it into a Faun to gain a powerful ally.
To transmute others, just throw the potion at them!
How to craft transformation potions?
Mangragore roots are the basis of each transformation potion. You can dig them up in the Wasteland. They are hidden in the ground, near tree trunks covered in mushrooms. After researching them, you can combine them with any ingredient representing an animal, human or monster. These 2 ingredients are all you need to brew the potion.
Morphing for free - statues in the Wasteland
In the 3rd Wasteland location, you will find animal statues that can be used to transform into specific animals. This way you can turn into a dog, mouse or chicken for free.
Features of transformation and summary
The most important features of morphing:
- Your stats will become the same as the animal's - you can also use the animal's special skill by pressing the block button (Space).
- Most animals are stronger as a skeleton (Restless) and while in this form, virtually any animal and monster will have increased damage and health. To read more about this topic, check out the following page of the guide: Skeleton Transformation.
- Your carrying capacity will decrease - small animals such as chickens or rats are able to carry 5 units, while dogs can carry up to 10 units.
- You cannot use chests or tools - only humans (and skeletons) can use weapons and items from both the inventory and the in-game world.
- Your attack damage will either increase or decrease - this also affects other stats: health, hunger, maximum carrying capacity. Of course, you can't wield a weapon while morphed into an animal, so it all depends on your basic attack value and special abilities.
- The transformation continues until you either end it or die - you will stay morphed until you press the R button or are killed. You will stay morphed even when traveling between locations.
- You cannot use items while transformed - this doesn't simply apply to weapons; you won't be able to heal or use other items as well. However, you can still use items by manually opening the inventory screen, as this restriction only affects quick slots.
